LG’s on a roll: just days after it unveiled the Optimus 3D Max and the Optimus L7 it’s announced a brand new quad-core Android handset, the LG Optimus 4X HD.
It’s enormously powerful and comes with a suitably enormous screen – so let’s discover the LG Optimus 4X HD specifications, release date and price.
The LG Optimus 4X HD is a 4.7-inch handset
LG is hanging on to details of the Optimus 4X HD release date so people will still turn up to its press conferences, but we’d expect the UK launch date to be announced during next week’s Mobile World Congress. Some of LG’s Optimus models’ UK release dates are in March, but that seems a bit early for Ice Cream Sandwich models.
The LG Optimus 4X HD has Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
No surprises here: LG’s latest phone operating system is the latest flavour of Android, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
LG Optimus 4X HD processor
If we’re being completely accurate, the LG Optimus 4X HD comes with a four-and-a-bit-core processor: the 1.5GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 has four main cores plus a fifth “companion core” for less intensive tasks such as standby mode and music playback. The idea is to keep all that crazy four-core power for when it’s actually needed.
The super-slim 8.9mm “prism-edged” case is dominated by a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display running at 1280×720, which promises “the finest viewing experience with high resolution, clarity and no colour or shape distortion.” We’re not quite at Samsung Galaxy Note ”I’m holding a dinner plate to my head” proportions, but we’re not far off it: it’s hard to tell from photos whether the 4X HD is big, the models holding it are little or a bit of both.
