1. Phần bài Matching headings của bài thi IELTS Reading
Việc đầu tiên bạn nên làm là hiểu được format đề thi như thế nào. Về cơ bản, bạn phải chọn tiêu đề chính xác cho mỗi đoạn paragraph và các section của mỗi bài văn.
Ví dụ:
“Here is part of a text about the scientific system for naming species of animals and plants. You have to choose the correct heading for each paragraph.

ii Reactions to Linnaeus’s work
iii The origin of the system
iv Which animals are lions and tigers related to?
A The scientific conventions for naming living organisms were established by the 18th century Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, Carl Linnaeus, who developed binomial nomenclature, a two- word system for naming every species of animal and plant. The first word identifies the genus, and the second word is the specific name.
B As an illustration, lions belong to the genus Panthera, and their specific name is leo. Hence the species is classified as Panthera leo. Their relation the tiger, on the other hand, is named Panthera tigris. The two- word names indicate the relationship in a way that lion and tiger do not.
Explaination: Paragraph A explains how the system began, so correct heading for A is heading iii. Although the paragraph refers to Linnaeu’s work, it isn’t about reactions to it, so Heading ii is wrong.
In paragraph B, two examples of animal names are given, using the system, so the correct answer is Heading i. Although the paragraph refers to lions and tigers, it doesn’t refer to animals they are related to, so Heading iv is wrong.

Các bạn nên dành thời gian đọc tất cả các Heading trước khi đoạn các đoạn text nhé để tập trung và có thể suy đoán được ý chính của đoạn văn sẽ là gì. Trong quá trình làm bài, bạn cảm thấy có nhiều Heading phù hợp với paragraph, sau khi đọc xong đoạn văn, bạn sẽ phải chọn heading nào tóm tắt ý chính nhất của đoạn văn đó.
2. Dạng bài matching của bài thi IELTS Listening
Mô hình chung, các bạn sẽ nghe đoạn băng và với mõi câu hỏi bạn sẽ phải lựa chọn một trong một số lựa chọn đáp án A, B, C,… theo thông tin mà bạn nghe được là gì và như thế nào.
Ví dụ:
Question When can the public use each of these facilities at the Community Centre?
A. Weekends
B. Monday to Friday
C. Weekends and Monday to Friday

Lưu ý: Đôi khi đáp án C bao gồm cả đáp án A và B, hãy chắc chắn rằng bạn lắng nghe đủ hết tất cả thông tin trước khi quyết định phương án cuối cùng.
Đối với ví dụ trên, ban đầu, người nói chỉ đưa ra những thông tin về đáp án A. Tuy nhiên, rất quan trọng để tiếp tục nghe, như thế bạn sẽ không bỏ lỡ thông tin rằng “ public use in also possible from Monday to Friday in the evenings”. Vì thế, đáp án chính xác trong phần thi này là đáp án C.
