TESTING CRITERIA

I.                   INTERVIEW: 3 ms

The teacher gives each student 3-5 questions on the following topics:

1.      Success

2.      The media

3.      Social behaviour

4.      Things you can't live without

5.      Jobs

6.      Tourist information

 

II.               PAIRWORK: 7 ms

Each pair of students chooses a ticket in random and has 8-10 minutes to prepare.

Students' presentation will be assessed as foloows:

1.      Fluency and confidence: 1.5 ms

2.      Pronunciation and intonation: 1.5 m

3.      Accuracy: 1 m

4.      Content: 3 m

 

Some suggested questions:

1.      What is success? What does it mean to you?

2.      Do you think the more money we get, the more successful we are?

Can money bring us happiness? Are the rich always happy?

3.      Do you think success can come to us by accident?

Is it right to say that a successful man has to pay high cost for it?

4.      Who is happier between a rich man without knowledge and a poor man with wide knowledge? Who will be successful?

5.     What do you think about the saying, "Never leave what we can do today until tomorrow"? Is it necessary to overwork or to rush bindly into our work?

Go to the cinema/coffee/go dancing/karaoke bar/ watch live music/ go for a walk…?

4.     Things you can’t live without: how machine work/ describe everyday objects

Ticket 1:

Student A: You’re phoning Travel Direct to find out about some air line tickets you ordered. You want to speak to the Manager to find out what is happening.

·        Ask to speak to the Manager

·        Ask if she can come back

·        Explain what the call is about

·        Give your number and say when you can be contacted

·        Say goodbye

Student B: You work at Travel Direct. The Manager is on the other line at the moment.

·        Answer the phone

·        Explain that the Manager is on the other line; ask the caller to hold or if he/she wants her to call back

·        Ask what the call is about

·        Ask for the caller’s number

·        Say thank you and end the conversation.

 

 

 

 

 

Ticket 2: make a conversation about TV and media

Suggestions:

·        Ask how often you watch TV or listen to the radio

·        Ask when you do these things.

·        Ask what channels/programmes you like best?

·        Say how you feel when watching /listening.

Student A: You are a foreigner. You want to know some social customs in Vietnam. Ask your friend about:

·        Behavior between men and women

·        How to greet and address people

·        Smoking

I. Situational questions

Teacher asks each student 2-3 questions on one of the following topics:

1.     Success: what are the most/least important to you? (a good life/friends and fun/ happy family/a nice home/ a successful career…)

2.     In the media: How often you listen to the radio or watch TV? Your favourite TV channels/ radio stations? Why?

3.     Socializing: What do you often do if you go out with your friends?

(Go to the cinema/coffee/go dancing/karaoke bar/ watch live music/ go for a walk…?)

4.     Things you can’t live without: how machine work/ describe everyday objects

II.               Conversations

Each pair of students is given a topic (Students have right to change the ticket ONCE) and has 5- 8 minutes to prepare.

TICKET 1:

Student A: You’re phoning AA Travel to find out about some airline tickets you ordered. You want to speak to the Manager to find out what is happening.

v    Ask to speak to the Manager

v    Ask if she can come back

v    Explain what the call is about

v    Give your number and say when you can be contacted

Student B: You work at AA Travel. The Manager is on the other line at the moment.

v    Answer the phone

v    Explain that the Manager is on the other line; ask the caller to hold or if he/she wants her to call back

v    Ask what the call is about, ask for the caller’s number

v    Say thank you and end the conversation.

In pair, make a conversation about the situation below

Student A: You are an interviewer. Ask student B who is about to graduate to find out what he/she intends to do

Student B: You are a student who is about to graduate from university. Answer the interviewer's questions

Possible suggestions:

v    I'll probably/I suppose I'll do some travelling...

v    I'm having a holiday with my family...

v    I'm (definitely) (not) going to apply for.../to be a./an....

v    I'm planning to do a master's degree in....

v    I'm about to.../I'm hoping to.../I'm due to.../I'm thinking of...

TICKET 3:

In pair, make a conversation about T.V. and media

Student A: ask your partner some questions to find out his/her interest and taste about T.V. and media

Possible suggestions:

v    How often he/she listens to the radio or watches T.V.

v    When he/she does these things.

v    Which his/her favourite/least favourite T.V. channels / radio station.

Student B: Answer your partner's questions.

Student A: You are from England, are going to visit Viet Nam. You want to know some social customs and behaviours in Vietnam. Ask your friend about:

v    Behaviors between men and women

v    How to greet and address people

v    Smoking / Being late

v    The way people dress

v    The way young people behave when they go out

v    Typical times for going out/ eating

Student B: Explain these things to your friend. Say what to do and what not to do when he/ she comes to Vietnam.


TICKET 7:

In pair, make a conversation about the most important object you'd hate to be without.

Student A: You want to show off to your friend a new laptop you have just bought.

v    Where/when/how you got it

v    Description of this object: size, colour, ect.

v    Why it is important to you.

v    What you use it for

v    Why you couldn’t live without it
