Criteria for marking the speaking test
I. Situational questions: 2 ms
II. Conversation: 8 ms
1. Fluency and confidence: 1m
2. Pronunciation and intonation: 1 m
3. Content: 4ms
4. Grammar: 1 m
5. Collaboration and work-distribution: 1 m

I. Situational questions
Teacher asks each student 2-3 questions on one of the following topics:
1. Success: what are the most/least important to you? (a good life/friends and fun/ happy family/a nice home/ a successful career…)
2. In the media: How often you listen to the radio or watch TV? Your favourite TV channels/ radio stations? Why?
3. Socializing: What do you often do if you go out with your friends?
(Go to the cinema/coffee/go dancing/karaoke bar/ watch live music/ go for a walk…?)
4. Things you can’t live without: how machine work/ describe everyday objects
II. Conversations
Each pair of students is given a topic (Students have right to change the ticket ONCE) and has 5- 8 minutes to prepare.
TICKET 1:
Student A: You’re phoning AA Travel to find out about some airline tickets you ordered. You want to speak to the Manager to find out what is happening.
v Ask to speak to the Manager
v Ask if she can come back
v Explain what the call is about
v Give your number and say when you can be contacted
Student B: You work at AA Travel. The Manager is on the other line at the moment.
v Answer the phone
v Explain that the Manager is on the other line; ask the caller to hold or if he/she wants her to call back
v Ask what the call is about, ask for the caller’s number
v Say thank you and end the conversation.

TICKET 2:
In pair, make a conversation about the situation below
Student A: You are an interviewer. Ask student B who is about to graduate to find out what he/she intends to do
Student B: You are a student who is about to graduate from university. Answer the interviewer's questions
Possible suggestions:
v I'll probably/I suppose I'll do some travelling...
v I'm having a holiday with my family...
v I'm (definitely) (not) going to apply for.../to be a./an....
v I'm planning to do a master's degree in....
v I'm about to.../I'm hoping to.../I'm due to.../I'm thinking of...
TICKET 3:
In pair, make a conversation about T.V. and media
Student A: ask your partner some questions to find out his/her interest and taste about T.V. and media
Possible suggestions:
v How often he/she listens to the radio or watches T.V.
v When he/she does these things.
v Which his/her favourite/least favourite T.V. channels / radio station.
Student B: Answer your partner's questions.

You have just read a very good novel or book/ watched a good film. You want to recommend it to your friend. Make a conversation about this book/novel/film.

TICKET 5:
v Student A: You are at the Lost Property Office. Describe a very important object that you have just lost.

· Why it is very important to you
v Student B: You are a police man. Ask and take note what your friend says.

TICKET 6:
Student A: You are from England, are going to visit Viet Nam. You want to know some social customs and behaviours in Vietnam. Ask your friend about:
v Behaviors between men and women
v How to greet and address people
v Smoking / Being late
v The way people dress
v The way young people behave when they go out
v Typical times for going out/ eating
Student B: Explain these things to your friend. Say what to do and what not to do when he/ she comes to Vietnam.
TICKET 7:
In pair, make a conversation about the most important object you'd hate to be without.
Student A: You want to show off to your friend a new laptop you have just bought.
v Where/when/how you got it
v Description of this object: size, colour, ect.
v Why it is important to you.
v What you use it for
v Why you couldn’t live without it
Student B: Ask and reply your friend’s statements.

Student A: makes polite requests for the following situations:
v Borrow your new friend’s mobile phone
v Change the five hundred thousand VN dong note
v Turn on/off the air conditioner
Student B: You may accept or refuse your partner's requests.
