Who may enter The competition is open to anyone.

Description 

Founded by the world-renowned BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife, Margaret, to celebrate the life and works of HG Wells and encourage creative writing, especially among the young. The annual HG Wells Short Story Competition offers a £250 Senior and £1,000 Junior prize and free publication of all shortlisted entries in a quality, professionally published paperback anthology. 

This year’s theme is “Peace”.

Your story can be set anywhere, feature any characters, and be written in any style. The length is 1,500 to 5,000 words. Entries must be in English.

Entries must be entirely your own work, and no part must have been previously published or broadcast in any format.

Entry feesThe competition for those 21 and under is free to enter. The competition for the over 21’s costs £10 (£5 with student ID).

PrizesThe Margaret and Reg Turnill Prize: £1,000 (for writers aged 21 and under)The Grand Prize: £250 (for writers aged 21 and over)

Shortlisted entries will be published in the professionally published paperback anthology.
